CBSA Conducting Raids: Action on Illegal Workers In Canada

Canadian Border Security Agency cracks down on various places to stop illegal workers from working in Canada. As per, Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) foreign workers in Canada without status are not allowed to work for any employer, in any capacity. These raids are being conducted in Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia as of now. These raised are mainly being conducted based on tips and intelligence to track down individuals engaged in unauthorized employment.
Two Major Raid Incidents Reported
Though these inspections are going on at various places but two major incidents have emerged from Nova Scotia and Alberta. Some of the construction workers were caught by police during the inspection, who were travelling in a van in Alberta. A similar incident was reported when CBSA asked a truck driver for his documents. It has become a major trend that people on Visitor Visas obtain AZ license and start working in trucking industry illegally.
Implications of working illegally in Canada
There are serious consequences if you work illegally in Canada. If you are found working without status, CBSA can issue you a notice under section 44 and a removal order. Removal Order is a notice whereby an individual is instructed to leave the country within 30 days of receiving the notice. An Exclusion Order can also be issued along with it, which means that the individual is not allowed to re-enter in Canada for 12 months.
Deportation and Permanent Ban can be another major consequence of working illegally in Canada. As it suggests, in this case you are permanently ban from entering in Canada unless a special order is obtained.
Also, it is important to be noted that, an individual cannot file a refugee case if removal order is issued to him/her.
What data shows about illegal workers ?
As per an estimate around 500,000 to 1 million illegal workers are there in Canada. This not only includes people who are on Visitor Visa and working on cash jobs.
